We lead the ceremony, guide the offer and acceptance, confirm the agreed mahr, and oversee the Nikah signing and closing du’a. Before the wedding, we confirm the wali, witnesses, readings and ceremony sequence. If your booking also includes a legal California marriage, the authorized officiant handles the civil solemnization and marriage-license responsibilities.

What happens during a Nikah ceremony?
Use this sequence to plan the guest experience. Your officiant may adapt the order to the agreed religious format. Decide which signing moments belong in the seated ceremony and which can happen privately.
Confirm these before your Nikah.
Your ceremony leader
Name the imam or Nikah officiant and confirm the religious standard they will follow.
- Share any school-of-law or mosque requirements.
- Assign readings and ceremony roles if more than one person is leading.
The couple’s consent
Both people must freely agree to the marriage. Family approval does not replace their consent.

The wali’s participation
Confirm whether a wali is required by your chosen religious standard and who will participate.

Ask the officiant to confirm the witnesses’ number, qualifications and participation.

The agreed mahr
Give the officiant the final terms you want reflected in the Nikah materials.

Documents and signatures
Agree who supplies each document and who receives the signed copies.
- Check legal names, spelling and originals before the ceremony.
- Tell Royaal if you are already legally married or have completed a Nikah.
Make the mahr specific.
Mahr is the groom’s marriage gift or obligation to the bride. Record what she is to receive and when. For gold, specify the weight and purity; for cash, state the amount and currency. If any part is deferred, have the final payment terms reviewed by the religious authority and any adviser you are using before the contract is signed.
Identify whether jewelry or another gift is being counted toward the mahr. Royaal can reflect your agreed terms in the ceremony materials and confirm whether the amount will be spoken publicly or handled during the private signing.
The civil steps, in order.
A religious contract and a California marriage license are separate records. If your Nikah is also your legal marriage, use this sequence with the authorized person solemnizing it.
Obtain the license
Get the California marriage license before the ceremony and check its expiration date. It is valid for 90 days from issuance. Complete the issuing county’s application and appointment process in time.
Confirm the civil witnesses
A public license requires at least one witness; no more than two may sign. A confidential license has no civil witness requirement or witness signatures. Its separate eligibility requirements apply. Religious witnesses may still be needed.
Review, solemnize and sign
The authorized officiant reviews the license before conducting the civil marriage. Only one officiant signs the license as the person who solemnized it, even if several people help lead the celebration.
Return it and request proof
The officiant must return the completed license to the issuing county within 10 days. After registration, request your certified marriage certificate separately; returning the license does not automatically send you a copy.

The same religious contract can feel very different depending on the setting. Royaal plans the ceremony around the room, privacy, guest count, sound, signing space and whatever modesty or seating arrangement the couple wants.
